Guimaras mulls solar energy use for biz ops
GUIMARAS – Businesses in this island province are considering the use of solar energy to power their operations.
In a recent business forum, the Solar System Application for Power Quality and Reliability was presented as a potential investment to reduce operation cost and promote renewable energy.
Solar energy refers to the energy derived from solar radiation that can be converted into useful thermal or electrical energy, according to Republic Act 9513, or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.
Solar energy systems, meanwhile, refer to energy systems which convert solar energy into thermal or electrical energy, the law added.
In the Philippines, solar panels are the widely used solar energy systems.
Gov. Samuel Gumarin said the forum presentation was in line with the “long-term vision” of Guimaras.
“Guimaras is standing as an agri-eco tourism capital in Region 6,” Gumarin stressed.
“For nearly more than 13 years, we made ourselves admirable as Guimarasnons nga ma-push forward ang ini nga lalab-uton sang vision of the Province of Guimaras,” he added.
The governor, who was speaking before his constituents, also said, “I, for once, nagasiling nga kinahanglanon sang mga hospital, kinahanglanon sang aton probinsiya [angsolar energy]. And, I think ma-feel niyo man nga kinahanglanon ni sang aton residential areas kag mga commercial areas.”
The forum was organized by the Guimaras Investors Club and PHINMA Energy Corp.
PHINMA Energy president and former Energy secretary Francisco Viray lead the solar energy presentation during the forum.
PHINMA operates the 54-megwatt wind farm in San Lorenzo town. The wind farm contributed to the 600-percent increase in recorded investment of the province in 2013.
